INTRODUCTION

Welcome!

Vale (Azure Spider) and Earth-8979 were created by me (MarcellaYouko) in May of 2024, and it's a personal project I've put a lot of effort and love into! I hope you enjoy exploring the world I've created and what it has to offer, I tried my absolute best to make it into something special and to keep it as close to canon as possible, representing the care I have for the franchise ♡

EARTH-8979 is a Solarpunk-themed universe set in the year 2035 whose Spider-Hero is a woman named Vale, known as the AZURE SPIDER. This dimension's worldbuilding seeks to emphasize the importance of a future where society lives in perfect harmony with nature, establishing a balance between technology and nature.

The following list includes terms and words important to the lore of this dimension and their respective meanings!ㅤ
SAINT NOVA — Earth-8979's version of New York, a portmanteau of São Paulo and New York. Architecturally Saint Nova is very similar to New York with the addition of the integration of nature into essentially every aspect of the city, including more parks, vertical gardens on the sides of buildings, solar panels, sustainable structures and trees everywhere. There is a high percentage of people who speak Brazillian Portuguese alongside English, and a large emphasis on the advancement of biotechnology.LUMEN — Lumen is a clean, self-sustaining energy source native to Earth-8979 and developed by Alchemax alongside the world's best bioengineers. It was first created in Saint Nova after years of research on a specific flower (called Lumina Bloom) capable of producing the energy now known as Lumen. This energy powers essentially everything in the city, and its power cores are heavily sought after by villains and criminals due to its limitless potential.UPPERTOWN — The upper part of Saint Nova where most of the technological developments are made. The biggest companies (such as Alchemax, LuxCorp and AetherTech) and labs are all located in Uppertown.MIDTOWN — Home of Saint Nova's pride and joy, Central Park, and the section where most of the urban and commercial areas of the city are located. Vale's home and botany shop is in Midtown.DOWNTOWN — The lower section of the city contains the gardens and farms that produce most of the food in Saint Nova. Produce that is made in Downtown is also highly sought after and often shipped outside of Manhattan.SNPD — Saint Nova Police Department. Officers work alongside automated drones and androids to assist against crime.EVERGREEN GARDEN — Vale's humble botany shop. It's located just across the street from where she lives, between Empire ST & E 28th ST.

Vale, known as the Azure Spider, acts the lone arachnid hero and guardian of Saint Nova, on Earth-8979. After years protecting her city from villains and those seeking to misuse their world's power source (known as Lumen) she discovered the Multiverse, joined the Spider-Society, and gained access to interdimensional travel, helping prevent Multiverse destruction while finding comfort among other Spider-People.

Vanetta Russo †
ㅤㅤAUNT AND GUARDIANㅤㅤ

Vanetta was Vale's only family and best friend for essentially all of her life. A sassy, feisty woman with a passion for plants and flowers and a knack for saying the right things at the right time. Despite her penchant for plant-related puns and jokes Vanetta was also known for her emotional wisdom, offering advice, guidance and a helping hand whenever Vale needed. She was the pillar on which Vale leaned on, and who she misses the most.

PETER PARKER
ㅤㅤPOLICE CAPTAIN

Peter Parker in Earth-8979 is known as a figure of authority from the SNPD, a respectable police Captain with his heart in the right place. A grounded strategist skilled in fighting against crime and managing community safety alike, providing crucial support to his city's arachnid hero – the Azure Spider – in an unique partnership and alliance, working together to keep the city of Saint Nova safe and thriving.

J. Jonah Jameson is the demanding editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle, Saint Nova's leading news source. Acting as a traditional journalist and city watchdog he upholds classic journalistic values, ensuring progress benefits all and holding everyone, even superheroes, accountable. Jameson holds a particular grudge against the Azure Spider due to suspicion and protectiveness over his beloved city.

VILLAINS AND ENEMIES

Quentin Beck
ㅤㅤㅤㅤMYSTERIOㅤㅤㅤㅤ

In all the worst ways the villain known as Mysterio embodies the advanced technology from Saint Nova, twisting it for his own selfish and cruel ends. An arrogant mastermind of trickery, he stands as the Azure Spider's greatest foe – a manifestation of everything that could go wrong if Lumen energy got into the wrong hands. Beck views himself as the only one possessing the intellect and vision to truly wield Lumen's potential.

MAC GARGAN
ㅤㅤㅤㅤSCORPIONㅤㅤㅤㅤ

Mac Gargan was, in many ways, essential to the development of Saint Nova – once a disgruntled construction worker, Gargan was driven by the desire for recognition and a resentment towards those in power who, in his eyes, did not truly acknowledge his sacrifices for the city's growth. Believing it to be his ticket to respect and power he sought to augment himself, becoming fused to the experimental exoskeleton armor that turned him into the Scorpion.

Herman Schultz
ㅤㅤㅤㅤSHOCKERㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ

Once a brilliant engineer, Schultz's idealism about a perfect society soured after witnessing the vulnerabilities hidden beneath a facade of perfection in the city of Saint Nova. As the supervillain now known as Shocker, he seeks to demonstrate that the seemingly flawless systems are vulnerable, that the utopian dream is built on a foundation that can be shaken – A bitter architect now intent on demonstrating the flaws in his own creation and to prove that even in paradise, chaos can bloom.

MAX DILLON
ㅤㅤㅤㅤELECTROㅤㅤㅤㅤ

Max Dillon, obsessed with energy since childhood, worked at a Lumen power plant where an accident fundamentally altered him, transforming him into Electro – A being of living energy. This transformation ignited an insatiable addiction to power, leading Electro to prey upon Saint Nova's energy systems to amplify his own strength. Driven by his addiction and Roxxon's influence, he seeks to become the ultimate embodiment of Lumen energy, with power over the whole city as his ultimate prize.

Adrian Toomes
ㅤㅤㅤㅤVULTUREㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ

Adrian Toomes was a brilliant but eccentric pioneer in solar technology in Saint Nova – However his independent nature clashed with the collaborative scientific community, leading to his radical projects being rejected for being too disruptive and ambitious. Disillusioned and resentful Toomes retreated, secretly refined his flight system and became the Vulture, stealing resources and causing chaos to prove his genius and to challenge Saint Nova's utopian ideals.

CURTIS CONNORS
ㅤㅤㅤㅤLIZARDㅤㅤㅤㅤ

Driven by his research into reptilian regeneration at the famous company LuxCorp, Dr. Curtis Connors, a brilliant bio-engineer, became the Lizard through a reckless self-experiment. Banished to the city's underbelly as a monstrous creature, the Lizard's primal urges for survival constantly bring him into conflict with the Azure Spider. The possibility of reversing his condition, along with his own willingness to be cured, remains ambiguous as he lurks in the shadows.

Welcome to Saint Nova, where technology and nature exist in perfect harmony! The year is 2035, and Saint Nova stands as a beacon of progress and sustainability, a place where people and the planet can thrive and achieve a peaceful future together. Found in Earth-8979 the city's eco-friendly architecture is a mix of sleek and graceful, and while reminiscent of New York's own iconic skyline Saint Nova boasts a few distinctive differences — The buildings are covered in greenery, from rooftop gardens to vertical walls of vibrant plants, solar panels are seamlessly integrated into the design of essentially every building capturing the abundant sunlight that bathes the city, there are several parks and gardens and it is divided into three main districts:Uppertown is where the technological marvels of Saint Nova are developed and where the biggest companies like Alchemax, LuxCorp, Roxxon and AetherTech have their headquarters. Cutting-edge labs are constantly working on the latest advancements in renewable energy, biotechnology, and the use of Artificial Intelligence to make people's lives easier and provide more comfort to society as a whole. Despite its high-tech focus Uppertown still maintains a strong connection to nature with green spaces integrated into the streets like the rest of Saint Nova and vertical gardens woven throughout the district. Here each company pushes the boundaries of science, striving for advancements that benefit all.Midtown is the heart of Saint Nova and home to Central Park and the city's urban and commercial areas. This district is a bustling hub of activity where people gather to work, shop, and enjoy their daily lives — Buildings are designed to maximize natural light and incorporate greenenery into every aspect of life, creating a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living. Central Park stands at the very center of Saint Nova as a sprawling oasis of greenery and wildlife and it serves as both an untouched sanctuary and reminder of the importance of nature in perfect balance with technology.Downtown is where the majority of Saint Nova's food is produced. Lush gardens and farms stretch out across the district providing fresh, organic produce for the city's residents, and resources created here are also heavily coveted overseas. Hydroponics and vertical farming techniques are widely used to maximize space and resources and Downtown is also home to several educational institutions specializing in agricultural sciences and sustainable living.Saint Nova's energy needs are met by Lumen, a clean, self-sustaining energy source — Developed by local scientists after years and years of thorough research Lumen harnesses the energy provided by a flower called Lumina Bloom, which was capable of generating electricity. The Lumen energy system was developed as a group effort by the top scientists and bioengineers in the world from all three major companies in Saint Nova and it is designed to be self-sustaining and scalable, allowing it to meet the city's growing energy demands while maintaining a small environmental footprint. Lumen powers everything — From the automated vertical farms to every single skyscraper, building and shop. Its glow pulses through the city's veins and connects everything and everyone like the roots of a massive tree, a constant reminder of Saint Nova's commitment to a cleaner future.In Saint Nova technology and nature exist in a symbiotic relationship, each supporting and enhancing the other to a level of near perfection. Drones are scattered around to safely maintain CO2 levels and to provide security to it's inhabitants, and the SNPD (Saint Nova Police Department) also works tirelessly to keep the city safe no matter the district — But despite the bright outlook of the city and its harmony with nature, it is not exempt from its share of crime. While there is not too much crime in Saint Nova due to the efforts of society and the SNPD it doesn't mean that there aren't people and villains lurking in the darkest corners with less than positive intentions. The temptation brought by the advancements of technology have created Saint Nova's share of supervillains like Mysterio, Shocker and Scorpion, amongst others, all of which seek to use Lumen to fuel their dark ambitions. That is where the Azure Spider steps in, acting as the Spider-Hero and protector of Saint Nova.Donning the title of guardian of Earth-8979 the Azure Spider fights to keep Saint Nova safe from petty criminals and dastardly supervillains alike, maintaining balance in the city one quip at a time.Through every up and down Saint Nova stands as a testament to humanity's ability to harmonize with nature, the technological Eden of the future.

EVENT TIMELINE

PROLOGUE

2003 — Alessa Russo is born to Marco and Naiara Russo.Alessa's parents travel a lot, consequently leaving her in the company of her father's sister, Vanetta, for most of the time.2014 — Alessa's parents die in a plane accident during one of their many travels. Her aunt Vanetta steps up and takes her in.Alessa chooses "Vale" as her own name due to her attachment to her aunt and due to feeling like it represents her better. Vanetta is her guardian and best friend, so Vale wanted to incorporate that into herself, hence picking "V" as the first letter.By growing up with aunt Vanetta in Saint Nova Vale grows extremely fond of plants, sharing her aunt's passion for them.Vale gets a job as a guide/assistant in Central Park. Her and Vanetta have plans to open a botany shop together in the future.2027 — Scientific breakthroughs are made with Lumina Bloom and Lumen energy is officially developed and incorporated into Saint Nova.

ORIGIN STORY

2030 — Alchemax secretly initiates experiments to inject Lumen energy into living beings ; tests are made in a hidden lab and a tarantula is successfully infused with Lumen.The tarantula escapes containment and winds up in Central Park.Vale stumbles upon the radioactive tarantula after the end of her shift at the park and is bitten by it, infused with Spider-Powers and a strain of Lumen.From that point onwards Vale assumes the role of the Azure Spider, aiding against crime and the insurgence of supervillains trying to monopolize and use Lumen energy for their personal gain.Due to her new obligations as a Spider-Hero, Vale begins spending less time with her aunt and their dream to open a botany shop becomes more distant.2031 — Aunt Vanetta tragically dies in a heroic attempt to save innocent lives from an accident in a Lumen Power Plant, costing her own. Vale is late to the scene and unable to save her aunt's life.Left with absolutely no family or friends Vale falls into a heavy depression, and copes with her loneliness by focusing on saving people and by keeping plants as her only company. She often sings as a way to comfort and distract herself from her grief.Vale decides to honor her late aunt by opening their dream botany shop, the Evergreen Garden. Vale also builds a greenhouse at the back of her property, using the time spent tending for plants to maintain her wounded mental health.

PRE-SPIDERVERSE

2035 — Vale carries on with her duties as the Azure Spider while also tending to the botany shop on the side. During a relatively peaceful day she suddenly meets a stranger in the form of Scarlet Spider, another Spider-Person.Scarlet Spider invites her to Spider-Society HQ, where Vale is introduced to the concept of the Multiverse and meets several other Spider-People (including Jessica Drew, Peter B. Parker, Kinara Satrinava and Margo Kess).Vale meets the leader of Spider-Society, Miguel O'Hara, and receives an invitation to join their ranks. She accepts and receives her very own gizmo.

POST-SPIDERVERSE

Being in Spider-Society begins to heal Vale's lonely soul, finally giving her the opportunity to make meaningful connections and friendships with people. She becomes particularly close to LYLA, Peter B. and Kinara.Vale acquires an interest in Miguel, curious about his brooding and reclusive demeanor. She creates the habit of pestering him whenever she has the chance, which creates a dynamic of bickering between them as Miguel struggles to handle Vale's boisterous energy.After Miguel explains the consequences of breaking a Canon Event to her Vale becomes even more hellbent on keeping him company, determined to at least soothe Miguel's lingering pain by providing him with the warmth of connection. He vehemently refuses her company at first.With time, Miguel and Vale get to know eachother and develop a strong bond. Vale has strong feelings for him but believes he does not reciprocate due to his often dismissive and grumpy behavior ; but Miguel is attached to Vale and tries to fight against his own growing feelings due to a fear of causing the destruction of another dimension by getting involved with someone from a different universe.Their feelings continue to grow and culminate into a fateful night, months later, where Miguel and Vale share an intimate moment.Before they can properly articulate their feelings to eachother Miguel is warned about a disastrous situation in Earth-50101 and the corruption of a Canon Event. Miguel leaves and Vale is left to deal with the aftermath of what they shared together without being certain if she's understanding the situation wrong.Miles Morales is then brought into Spider-Society HQ, and the events of Across The Spider-Verse unfold. The chase for Miles ensues, and Vale sides with Miguel due to her fear of jeopardizing the Canon.When Miles escapes Miguel calls Vale, Jess and Ben Reilly to accompany him. Vale parts ways with Peter B. and Kinara as they both side with Miles. A divide is created in Spider-Society.

BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE

FUTURE

Once the dust truly settles Vale and Miguel finally voice their feelings to eachother properly and assume a relationship, keeping it a secret from the rest of the Spiders at first. Miguel is still afraid of the repercussions, but he allows himself to show vulnerability due to the comfort Vale brings him.Eventually they tell the others about their relationship (which didn't come as a surprise to them) and continue to offer company and comfort to eachother.??? — Miguel proposes to Vale, and they get married in her dimension. They do not live together but spend all the time they can in eachother's company.MORE TBA!

Alessa Russo is the superhero from Earth-8979 known as Azure Spider, from the year 2035. She is the only hero in the frontline against the forces of evil in her city, Saint Nova, and deems herself the people's one and only guardian.Choosing Vale as her name she acts as the only arachnid hero of her dimension, fighting off against criminals and supervillains alike completely by herself, doing whatever she can to protect the lives of the citizens of Saint Nova and to keep the city itself from being damaged by those who, in their greed, seek to monopolize her universe's unique power source, Lumen.After being the Azure Spider for essentially five years Vale was suddenly faced with the reality of the Multiverse and invited to Earth-928 in order to be thoroughly evaluated by Spider-Society and its leader, Miguel O'Hara. Deemed essential to their ranks Vale then joined Spider-Society and received her very own gizmo, enabling her to travel between dimensions freely. She used that newfound perspective to not only assist Spider-Society in preventing the destruction of the Multiverse but also to heal her lonely soul, finding comfort in being in the presence of so many Spider-People like herself.With time spent in Spider-Society Vale developed a tight-knit friendship with Peter B. Parker, LYLA, and Kinara Satrinava, often seeking them for company when her dimension is safe from any kind of trouble and when she's not needed for Spider-Society missions. Despite also having a peculiar dynamic with the leader Miguel himself Vale's tendency to joke around and take things lightly often irritates Miguel, making it so that they frequently bicker when sharing the same space. Miguel disapproved of Vale's displays of levity, constantly attempting to push her away when she sought his company.Months after joining Spider-Society Vale found herself having deep feelings for Miguel, believing such not to be reciprocated due to the leader's tendency to shut her off and to isolate himself in his duties. When things in Spider-Society begin to escalate and risks become greater, both choose to stand side by side, trusting eachother implicitly despite their differences and relying on their bond to protect eachother and the Multiverse.

EARLY LIFE

Vale was born as Alessa Russo in Saint Nova and lived a fairly normal childhood. As an only daughter with a lot of energy she relied solely on her family for company, having a good relationship with her parents despite their sporadic presence in her life due to their constant traveling around the world. Whevener her parents were away Alessa was left in her aunt Vanetta's care, her father's sister, and together they cultivated a bond even stronger than just blood - Vanetta was always her inspiration, her idol, the person Alessa truly looked up to.Outside of her home Alessa always had trouble making friends during her childhood due to her hyperactive nature, never sitting still and being a bit too overly bouncy to the other kids; so once again she relied on her aunt's presence to keep her company, always visiting Vanetta's garden and spending her time learning about plants and flowers and how to properly nurture them. Her aunt's passion for plants was infectious – It wasn't just a hobby; it was a way of life. From the delicate white gardenias gracing the coffee table of her home to the robust ferns cascading from hanging baskets, every corner of her aunt's house was a testament to her green thumb, which encouraged Alessa to also develop a passion for plants of her own.As Alessa's parents tragically died in a plane accident during one of their travels when she was only 11 years old Vanetta immediately stepped up to take her in, choosing to be her niece's official guardian. From that point onwards Alessa continued being raised by her aunt as her only remaining family, and their bond only grew with time – Leading up to the point where she decided to choose "Vale" as her name as a homage to her aunt. Finding herself attached to it she felt as thought that name represented her better, abandoning her old name despite having no resentment towards it.

BECOMING THE AZURE SPIDER

Vale was having an ordinary day in Saint Nova's bustling Central Park, where she worked as a guide/assistant, when things suddenly took a turn. An unexpected critter in the form of a friendly tarantula approached her and suddenly bit her, unexpectedly infusing Vale with spider-like powers and a strand of pure energy – The tarantula was a successful experiment created in secret by Alchemax, the test subject in infusing a living being with Lumen energy, and an escapee from their labs.The bite ended up being more than just venom; it was a catalyst, the turning point. Over the next day Vale underwent a disorienting transformation – Her senses sharpened to an unnerving degree, her reflexes seemed faster, and she felt like a persistent 'buzz' settled just beneath her skin, unaware of the pure energy now flowing through her very veins. Then came the physical changes: Immense strength coursing through her limbs, reflexes like lightning, and perhaps most unnervingly, the ability to adhere to any surface, walking up walls and across ceilings with ease.Driven by a growing sense of responsibility and perhaps a need to make sense of her unexpected transformation, Vale embraced her destiny, becoming the Azure Spider. The name seemed to fit perfectly – The striking, almost jewel-like blue of the tarantula's colors echoed in the sleek, practical suit she crafted for herself, a symbol of hope cutting through the city's verdant gardens. She dedicated herself wholly to battling Saint Nova's escalating wave of villains, becoming the city's cheerful and cheeky guardian, the agile protector swinging through the urban landscapes, the only one standing between ordinary citizens and extraordinary danger.But this amazing power came at a personal cost – The quiet, hopeful dream she shared with her beloved aunt to open a cozy botany shop began to wither. Every late-night patrol, every unexpected emergency, every moment spent tracking down a villain or recovering from a fight chipped away at the time and energy she would have invested in their shared venture. The demands of safeguarding the people she cared about – the faceless crowds she web-slung above, the innocent people of Saint Nova, and most importantly, her unsuspecting aunt – consumed her time, energy, and focus. Vale found herself trapped between the normal life she lived before and the sudden responsibility she received when she gained her powers.

CANON EVENT

The sudden news of her aunt's death shattered Vale's world. The unexpected tragedy happened at one of Saint Nova's Lumen Power Plants about a year after that fateful moment when Vale was gifted her extraordinary abilities – Powers that regrettably couldn't save the most important person to her. Her aunt Vanetta, her only remaining family, was now gone after heroically aiding people who had been involved in the Power Plant accident. In the raw, echoing silence left behind, Vale was consumed by a crushing wave of guilt and remorse. Every patrol as the fledgling Azure Spider was tinged with the phantom weight of her aunt's absence, haunted by the 'what ifs' and the agonizing conviction that she had somehow failed fundamentally. The vibrant energy that had often characterized her spirit was dimmed, replaced by a deep void where their shared laughter and quiet companionship used to be. It was in the depths of this grief, clinging to the memory of her aunt's unwavering optimism and their shared dreams, that Vale found a fragile anchor: The idea of opening the botany shop they had always planned together. So that was what she did – Finally opening her and her aunt's dream botany shop.Finding a way forward meant confronting the seemingly impossible task of balancing her burgeoning, life-or-death duties as the Azure Spider with the grounded, everyday reality of running a business. It wasn't easy; there were late-night patrols followed by early mornings repotting plants, moments of exhaustion where the weight of both worlds threatened to crush her. Yet, fueled by dedication to her aunt's memory and a growing resolve to protect the city she loved, Vale painstakingly worked out a rhythm.
